Planning Your Wedding: Part 2

So your venue has been booked, you have a guest list, you have a vision and a budget to go with all of that. Following a checklist step by step can make the process easier from this point forward.

At the end of this post is a link to download the Kloc's Wedding checklist. It applies to all weddings but adds some details on everything Kloc's can provide.

In the last post we covered the most important items for you to take care of between engagement and booking your venue. In this post we will follow along with the wedding planning checklist from 12 months to 6 months prior to wedding day.

First, with all that goes into planning your wedding, it is imporant to stay extremely organized. Use of a binder or folders is a great way to separate and organize all the ideas, worksheets, contracts, vendors, etc. There will be lot of materials and some decisions between vendors will be really hard to make. Staying organized will help you to make better decisions that carefully weigh all the pros and cons.

Next, the ceremony. This is the highlight of your wedding day and it is the part that means the most. If you have already decided to have your ceremony is at Kloc's, the next step is to contact, meet with, and hire your officiant. If your ceremony is at a church, then you have likely already met with your officiant. Either way, this is the time to start talking with your officiant about the choices for readings, the personal touches you can add, and your vows. Enjoy this part and take your time to read and decide together between the options available to you!

  • During these first 2-3 months of wedding planning:

  • Begin shopping for the wedding gown.

  • Choose the members of your wedding party.

  • Enroll in wedding/shower gift registries.

  • Hire a photographer and a videographer.

  • Book an engagement photo session, especially if you plan to include a

  • professional engagement picture with Save-the-Date cards.

  • Begin deciding on menu selections for reception. If you booked a venue that doesn’t include on-site catering, hire a caterer.

  • Hire a florist.

  • Continuing into the next few months of wedding planning:

  • Make arrangements for music to be played at the ceremony and reception.

  • (Tasks might include booking a band or solo musician, hiring a DJ, choosing significant musical selections, and so on.).

  • If your ceremony is at Kloc’s, we will play your ceremony music selections for you.

  • Also, Kloc's provides a reception sound system and DJ package that will make this process one step easier for you!

  • Reserve a block of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. (Ask about group rates.)

  • Send out Save-the-Date cards. (Include lodging information and maps, etc.)

  • The modern process for informing guests of this is to create a wedding website, more to come in this in a future blog post

  • Shop for wedding rings.

  • Select and order wedding gown, leaving ample time for delivery and alterations.

  • Shop for bridesmaids’ dresses.

  • Schedule wedding cake design appointments and tastings.

  • Start planning your honeymoon.

Remember the decisions you made in part one, especially the vision of your wedding day. This is your guiding north star and will help you make the decisions that plan into the rest of your wedding planning. Use your vision to help you make decisions on everything from color scheme and décor to tux/suit styles and late-night snacks.

At Kloc's we can help through this process. In many ways these decisions will play into what your venue allows and how your venue will work through helping you to pull of the idea seamlessly. We will work with you to help you understand what we can do for you. Contact us when you come across any questions.

Good luck, God Bless, and Have Fun!
